After considerable discussion the Electoral Bill was read a second time. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, Replying to a long question by Mr Taylor, tho Minister for Education said candidates were admitted to tho junior branches of tlie Civil Service after passing an examination whether they came from a Catholic or any other school. As regarded woiking railways, he was iuformed the Commissioners would accept the certify cates held by children attending State schools of having passed a certain examination, and in the case of children attending other schools they would accept the certificate of the master that the pupil had passed, or was able to pass an examination equal to that required from children attending Sta;o schools. There was one Deparment—the Post #nd Telegraph --in winch he had recently heard of certain hard cases; tligre thoy had endeavoured to do their best, and had frequently accepted certificates from masters of Catholic and private so'iouls, but in oue or two cases there had been difficulties, The matter, however, was under consideration, and it was contemplated to introduce a regulation which would remove the difficulty.
