ARBOR DAY BALL.
The unlucky star must have fallen to the lot of our Greytown friends with the leap year of 1892, for wet and miserable weather has prevailed on the five days the different annual social gatherings have been held, Yesterday was no exception to the rule, and many a couple in the Lower Valley pronounced blessings on the head of the weather prophet'for bis treacherousness. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, a .goodly and merry crowd assembled in the Palace Hall to help along'aii excellent cause, and enjoy themselves to their hearts' content! Tlie ball of last evening was solely by the fair sex, who are to be congratulated on the result,: The decoratione
were wolharrangqt); tho flowers, evergreens, and banners, 1 witb n large " Welcome to our Arbor Day Ball " over thoentranco, making tlic capacious hall look exceedingly pretty, Tho muflio, supplied by the biass band, under the leadership of Mr M. R. Vamliam, was spoken very highly of by i he dancers, and all minor arrangements were perfect, showing conclusively what the ladies can do when they put their minds to it. The M.C.'e, Mrs.C. Hoard, Mrs A, Camp bell, Miss A. Udy, and Miss Ward looked after the enjoyment of the gay assemblage in fine style, and many a forlorn'youne man thanked within himself the kind attentions of these ladies. Miss Berlha Nation, the bright and energetic Secretary, to whoso efforts the success of the ball was in a largo measuro due, was indefatigable in tho fulfilment of the nriiuous duties pertaining to her responsible office, ana her work will, we feel sure, be iully appreciated by the promoters of the gathering and by tho residents of the district generally,
