Beetham the defendant, A correspondent writes:—Sir,—Has not the Acclimatization Society aoted rather hastily in closing the Maßterton grounds to the public on Sundays? The adjourned sitting of the Masterton Borough Licensing Bench will be held in the Courthouse at noon tomorrow (Tuesday), The Payment of Members Bill, which is to bo introduced in the Hwso of Representatives, will practically be tho same as last year—the salary to be £240 for the Lower House, and 1150 for the Councillors,, The use of Tasmanian palings on Government workß has aroused the feelings of Mr Hogg, M.H.R., and he wdl ask a question on the subject in the House to-morrow. Mr Hogg also wants to know tho reason why Government contractors are often kept waiting for their money.
At the Dairying Conference held at Duuodin last week, the following reßolutions were paßßed:—That the Government be asked to provide, or assist in providing, cool storage at the main ports of shipmont. That the Government be asked to provide, or assist in providing, a dairy produce store in London, where shipments would bo landed and reported on by qualified men. That M,H,R.'s be asked to influence the House to otherwise have carriage by rail on dairy produce reduced to grain rates; also that a delegate interview the Government on the same subject. That the Government be asked to arrange with tho Railway Department for lower rates on oream and butter going to the nearest factory, with a view to developing the factory system among the small outlying settlers, That the Government be asked to deal with the question of branding produce, on the lines indicated in the annual report, Tbat the meeting do not recommend the adoption of the bonus system, either on produce exported or factories orected, That a meeting be convened of both cheese and butter makers, when papers will be read and the question how milk and cream should be paid for discussed, That the Committee make an effort to obtain more members in the North Island, and that the name of the Association be then altered, That the Insurance Companies be approached with a view to obtaining policies covering partial damage, How is it! At the Maori meeting at Waipatu the following resolutions have, after considerable discussion, been passed by a majority of 28:—"That all proceedings in the Native Land Courts be stoppod forthwith; that notices be sent to all tribes throughout New Zealand asking them to withdraw all applications for original hearings, subdivision hearings, and all other claims pertaining to native land; that notices be sent to all Native Assessors asking them to resign; a petition to give effect to the above to be forwarded to the General Assembly." The annual report of the Ohristchurch Farmers' Co-operative Association, to be presented next week, states that the net profit for the year is £9390. The directors propose paying a seven per cent dividend, and a three per cent bonus on capital, and four per cent bonus on purchases.
