The Speaker announced the vacanoy for Bangitikei, owing to the death of i the. late Mr Macatthni', M.H.R., which, he said, would be generally regretted by all the members. The Hon. Mr Rolleeion referred in feeling terms, to the, good work performed by the deceased, whose memory would be one of good, service "to the country, and kindly feeling lo.sll. The Premier *Biiid ho desired, oa behalf of the Government, to express their sincore regret at the untimely death of the late member for Rangi.. tikei. '""'. '.' ' ".'.'■ '

THE BRYOE EPISODE. : Mr Geo Hutchison' presented a petition from Mr John JBryce, late inemborfor Waikato,and asked thotthe petitioner bo heard at.the Bar of the House at the fir6t available opportunity. ■■■■■■. Tbo Premier, suggested that notice should be given of the motion' as there were even now a good many hon members who wore not'present.
Mr Hutohison gave notice accordingly, saying that he hoped no obstacle would be placed in tho way of discussing the motion tho following afternoon, PETITIONS,
Mr W. McLean presented a petU tion from the curriers and tanners, who saidthoy were suffering from great hardships, and that many of their number were out of employment in consequence o 1 the inequalities of the present tariff, and asking that their complaint might be enquired into, Mr J, Duthie preseuted a petition from a number of commercial travel, lers of Wellington, asking that they might be allowed to vote in the same manner as sailors, THE LATE AGENT-GENERAL,
The Speaker read a letter which ho bad sent to Sir Franois Dillon Bell by direction of tho House on his retirement from the position of AgentGeneral, together with his reply. On the motion of the Premier the letter and reply were ordered to be entered in the journals otthe House.
THE HUBSIAN JEWS. The Speaker also read the letter he had sent by order of the Houso to His Excellency Lieutenant Do Kichter, Aide-dO'Camp to His Majesty the Emperor of Russia, in company with the petition of the Hone ae to tbe treatment of the Russian Jews. The Hon Mr Rolleston moved that tho documents be entered in the journals of the' House, which was agreed to. THE FINANCIAL BTATEHENT. l The Premier announced that if the debate on the Address»in\Reply was finished to-day (Friday), ho would be able to make tho Financial Statement on Tuesday evening. (Applause). LEGISLVTIVE COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS. The Hon, Mr Rulleston asked the Premier if tho information with respect to Ministers having on two occasions during the recess advised the Crown Respecting tbe Upper | House, and that the advice bad not been accepted, was correct; and if so, what course the Ministers proposed to take. The Premier thought that was a question that should be given notice of, and the Hon, Mr Rolleston, who, however, thought Ministers should be prepared to make a statement, gave notice accordingly. The House adjourned at 8.46 till 2.80 p.m. to day,
