THE TUG-OF-WAR.

. The tug-of-war was. continued m the Mastertori theatre' Royal on Saturday night, the audience being fairly large... The first pull was between, the Welsh and Bed Star teams, This was won,rather easily by the former, after a pull lasting six minutes.

, The'next contest was between the Municipal Fire Brigade and the Stars. The teams were both about the same weight, but the latter had the disadvantage of having pulled once before during the evening,. The struggle waß a desperate one. In the first' five minutes (he Brigade had gained a foot, but despite' their best' efforts .they could not increase the lead until, their opponents' anchor man. lost his hold,; The ball was then carried another; foot in the direction of the Brigade, and after a most exciting finish, the Firemen scored a win. The pull lasted about twenty-eight minutes, A dispute then arose as to whether the Colonial team, which was constituted differently to what it was on the'first night, could pull, the result being that a deadlock occurred, and the: competition was given to the Maoris,' who bad scored two wins without a'defeat.

A friendly-contest between, Jhe Colonials'and the Maoris af^'rwarda

took place, the latter winning easily in about a minute. The pull for second place bntweia the Welshmen and Fire Brigade takes place this (Monday) evening.
