At the Supreme Court criminal sittings to-day, the men convicted of larceny of Mr Hutch's sealskins last Besaious, and sentence on whom was deferred until certain points of law hail been submitted. by Mr Justice Williams to the Appeal Court-had been settled, were brought-, up, Androw Newtown, who His Honor said wad the ringleader in the crime andh»dgot,Hll the profits of it, was sentenced to twelve months' hard labour; C. H.'Hellish and Thomas Thomson were released on entering' into a bond to come up for sentence when called on. William Ross, for forgery. and utieiing at Gore, made the common defence that ha had got tho cheque from an unknown rr.an, to whom he gave cash for it, and afterwards tendered it in payment for goods. Accused had five years' sentence in Dun6din for rape and was now given nine months' hard lalour. John Cameron wus found guilty of indecent assault un a little girl at Biverton ou Sunday last and somenced to. 18 months. His Honour enquired as to the man's antecedents, us he appeared to be in a muddled state, saying in evidence that if he committed the crime ho did not know it. It appears that he came from Tiraaru; that he had been charged with vagrancy at Winton recently, and discharged on a promiss to leave tho district.
