DOBSON-KENNEDY COMPANY.
"Hans the Boatman,"
TheDobson-KennedyDramatic and Comedy Company gave their second performance in the Masterton Theatre Royal last (Tuesday) evening to another large and appreciative audience. The piece staged, " Hans the Boatman," has never before been put on in this district, and its production was therefore witnessed with considerable interest. At the conclusion of the performance tbe general opinion was that "Hatiß the Boatman" is the prettiest drama the Company has ever produced. The loading character, that of 11 Hans," was taken by Mr Frank Nflffln. whose conception of tbe inndol&t, love-making " Swiss" boy was really perfect, Mr Norton was, however, suffering from' a severe! cold, which made his voice somewhat hußky, and his singing was not what it otherwise would have been. The whole of the remaining characters wore well sustained, Miss Lily Hill making a capital Gladys and Miss Thornton being quite at home as " Jeffie," Mr Collet Dobson took the part of Lieut Finch, and Mr J. J. Kennedy that of Yank Thursday, whilst little Ruby Kennedy did credit to the part of" Little Hans." The piece would not be complete without tho faithful house dog "Lion," who went through hia part in a manner which showed he had beon carefully trained, Altogether the performance was pleasingly ingenuous, and being well put on wbb received with enthusiasm,
A third performance nil! be given to-night, when the famous Dutch* Atnlfican drama " Struok Oil '' will bo produced, together with the screaming farce, in which Mr J- J, Kennedy will appear as "The Chicken;"
