The Hon H. Matthews, Home Seoretary, in replying io a question asked in the House of Commons today by Sir Wilfied Lawson, M.P. for Cockermoutb, doubted whether the glove contest between P. J?. Slavin and Peter Jackson came within the criminal law, but said he had [inw structed the Public Prosecutor te en quire into the matter. fit was stated through the columns of the Masterton papeis some dtys ago that the glove contest between Jackson and Slavin had resulted in a victory for the former. This information was received by a sporting jflsident by wire from Wellington, hut has since proved to be bogus. For some unaosountable reason the result of the fight has not yet reached New Zealand.] :
