FEATHERSTON NOTES.

At the Rev. E. Walker's lecture, on the New Zealand Alliance at Featherston, the following resolution was adopted by the meeting:—"This meeting learns with amazement and indignation that the proclamation which (in response to a petitiou of the King Country Maoris in accordance with a provision in the Licensing Aot, 1881,) prohibited the Bale of alcoholic liquors throughout the King Country has been superseded by a proclamation dated April -lib, declaring a certain area in the heart of .the-King. Country a licensing district j cannot believe that the King Country Maoris generally are aware of, or are parties to the grass wrong which is,being i thuß inflicted upon them'; is extremely' doubtful of the legality of the proclamation; and expresses the hope that in every centre of population public meetings will be held to resent it, and In the name of humanity- and of colonial honour demand of the legisature its instant withdrawal,"
