THE DOBSON-KENNEDY CO'Y.

The Lancashire Lass.

On Monday evening next the well known Dobson Kennedy Company open the Masterton season in the Theatre Royal with H, J, Byron's fliriking and popular drama " Tho Lancashire Lass," the plot of which runß somewhat as follows:—A village maiden—daughter of an illiterate farmer—the simple "Ruth" is first wooed by " Ned Claylon," a carpenter (Mr' Collet Dobson) to whom she gives her heart, and then meets with another lover in the person of "Bedouin," the villain of the piece. This blackguard, aided by a gipsy girl, who, unsuccessful in winning Ned's love, desires to be upon him, wins Kuth's affections, and she is pemiaded to write a letter to Bedburn, promising to eldpe with him, This letter falls into the hands of Ruth's father, and is read to him by Ned—not, however, as written by Ruth, but as a letter under such circumstances should have been written by a woman who had already become the affianced wife of another man—a letter declining Redbura'a overtures.. This version of the letter saves Buth's good name, but the dis* covery of his fiancee's perfidy breaks the carpenter's heart, and he start? on a downward career of dissipation. The play is long, and a full description of it would be too great a tax on our space, but judging from the reports appearing in our exchanges the piece is well worth seeing, every character being sustained in a most natural of the piece are supplied by our manner. The prison Bcene and the Australian bush scene are both particularly thrilling, while the lighter' side of life and the humour old friend Mr J. J, Kennedy, as tl " party by the name or instou," and bis brother "Joe" Kennedy, who makes his a'ret appearance in Masterton as" Spotty."

The cast of the Lancashire Lass is a very strong one, and will require, a larger number to appear than has been included in any piece staged in Maßterton for many years,
