Being ire extended title of the Wairarapa Daily, with which it is identical.
•' ASybney correspondent thus writes to a contemporary ;--Messrs Hood, the quack doctors who were convicted (lie oilier day of having caused tbo death of a Mrs Cohen by maltreatment, have received very severe punishments. But nobody here sjmpathises with them, They were im|iostors and humbugs, and therefore deserved to be severely handled. They were found guilty of manslaughter, because tbey had caused the death of their patient by ignorant treatment. Now, this raises a nice point. It is this: Some of the regular practitioners, it is well known, are by no means skilful, and they have hurried people into their graves, When it can be shown that uny of these have shortened a patient's life, should he not be assigned for manslaughter 1 Should there be one law for the quacks and another for the diplomied gentlemen ? A friend of mine had a relative, a fine young fellow, who died at the age of thirty years. During his illness he was treated for typhoid fever, but a post mortem examination proved that his disease was ulcerated liver. I have no douot that the doctors helped him into the grave; but of course the court of law would re» gard them as being guiltless of orime. In regard to the treatment of disease there is not, I fear, a great deal of difference between quacks and some of the regular practitioners.
