The annual match between the arjovo club 3 took place, at Newtown Park yesterday, and resulted in a vie-1 tory for tho homo team by 14 points to 5. The visitors won the toss, and | elected to defend the western goal, Campbell kicking off, From the start J ■ the Melrose invaded the Slats' quarters, and after forcing them down three times, Bell succeeded in potting a goal, an advantage the Mehoso kept to the end of the spell. Shortly after tho start of the second term, a good passiug rush of the visitors enabled Ginders to secure a try, which Kmraett converted, As this made the vtsitotH a point ahead, the homo team redoubled thoir efforts, and after somo give-and-.tako play Bell secured a mark, and placod the ball for S. Roar, who was, however, unable to convert. A few minutes after this the Melrose were awarded a free kick, Campbell placing a goal, making the score 7 to 5, from this out tho result was never in doubt, tho ball rarely being out ot the Stars' twenty fives, H. Hoar and Johnston securing tries, T. Hoar converting the latter inio a goal. The pick of the visitors were Thompson and Hudson (backs), and Ginders and Iggulden (forwards); McKeozie, Campbell, Johnston, Hoar, Burns and Bell being the most conspicuous ot the home team,
Tho Eed Star second v Petone second, which was to have been played did not eventuate, owing to the Masterton players not being able to put a fifteen in the field,
