QjeGrattan Biggs Company opened jnlP Theatre Eoyal,: Maatarton, Ik '&venibg''with 'thi above ''named bathetic 1 and tumorous drama, and judging by the frequent applause, the large audience aeaembled were more than satisfied with its production, jho principal " character, tbit of " Sbaun thb Post'" was taken by Mr Gratfan Jligfjs, whoaa splendid, delineation of tbe'part'(juitS 'won Hie hearts of all present, Mr Robert E. Inraan aa "Colonel O'Omdy," Mr Scot Inglia as " Beamish McCool," * and Mr Dunbar as "Major Caffirj," each showed himself 'to'-' bo worthy
of ussocintiou with an aotor of Mr Grattan Biggs' standing. Mr J. P. West as " Michael Feenoy " the villain of the pieco looked villainous enough for anything. Miss Maud Apploton, as " Arrah-na-Poguo," fully sustained hor provious reputation «s a charming and accomplished actress, while Miss Maroella Day, as " Funny Powor," carried out a difficult p»rt in a natural manner. The remaining characters of the piece wore ably filled, To-night the com pany plays that thrilling and yet pathetic and humourous comedy drama of "Tho Shadows of a Great City," andwi'h special srenic cdects and superior mounting, Mr Graitan Kiges and his associates will have every chance of attracting and entertaining a numerous audience, Last night the Company played under great disadvantage, having bad to travel hard to reach Mastr-rton in timo for the performance. To-morrow " The Irish Detective" is to be produced.
