Whitcombe, Burrows, Hodgins and Yule. b A considerable quantity of correa« c pondence was read and dealt with. 1 ' ADVERTISING, A letter was read from Messrs » Paylon and Do,, of Mastenon, asking 1 for a share of the Council's advertising, but recommending that the Couni oil should snpport the local paper. * Or G. Whitoombe moved that the letter be returned to Messrs Payton " and Co,, and that they be informed that the Counoil is quite competent to s look after its own business. b Or E, Whitcombo seconded. e Or Vile strongly objected to any snch letter being sent, and Or Bolton it also declared his intention of voting a against the motion, which was lost on 1 the voices, Cr Bolton moved and Cr Tylee - seoonded, that the letter be received 1 with thanks. 6 As an amendment Cr Vile moved that the letter be reoeived and that Messrs Payton and Co. be informed that they had had an opportunity of 0 tendering for the advertising the same a as Other papers. h Cr Vile'a amendment was carried. a A notice of motion given by Cr " Yule that the statutory advertising of the Council be given to the Pahia« 0 tua Star, was ruled out of order by the y Chairman • who refused to put it on r the ground that it would lay the Counoil open to an action for breach s ofcontraot. DEFERRED THIRDS. Or Vile moved that the Minister having charge of the Lands Department be informed that a considerable amount of delay is being incurred by tho Land Department of this district: in giving effect to seotions 127 and 160 of the Land Act, 1884, and amendments thereof; that this Council has received no thirds for expenditure since November, 189]; that the whole of the thirds pai l over to the Government since July last are still held by them to the very great detriment of the aottlera who are requiring roads and tracks to give them aocess to their land j that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Hon the Minister of Lands and the member for this district-Seconded by Or Pinfold and carried. NOTICE TO STRIKE A HATE, The Chairman gave notice that he would move at next meeting of the Counoil that a general rate of one penny in tho pound be struok for the epsuing year, This being all the business the meeting adjourned,
