AUNT LUCINDA.
t The Palmer Oomic Opera I Company. The piiblio of Masterton hag of let#. been treated to a variety of f mate entertainments, and now , our old friondMr Charles Pal* mer and bis talented Comio '"1 Opera Company have appeared ; upon the scene. When in Masterton before Mr Palmer quite oaptivated his audiences, and it is therefore no matter lor surprise that he was last niglil i accorded a hearty reception. , comedy produced, "Aunt Luoinda, , was just the sort of thing to " catch , on," and if the screams of delight and roars of laughter which resounded through the Theatre Itayal have any . significance at all, we might judge , that it was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The plot of the piece, | winch throughout sparkles with humour, is very simple, so aim^ ■ pie indeed that it can be followed Iby the merest child. Aunt Lucinda ' is in itself a musical extravaganza, , affording opportunity for the intra- [ duction of some really excellent i comic and sentimental songs, and ! free from the slightest trace of vul> ■ garism. As a musioal , would be hard to beat. The whojeot t the performers—eight in number—k genuine artistes, sustaining the l various characters with ease and i gracefulness. Miss Eva Glenand Misa ) Alma Obery are possessed, of charmj ing voices, which they used to the • , very best advantage, whilst Mf f Thomas Bergin, a fine baritone, fairly , entranced _ the audience with his [ vocal renditions. The low oomody business of Mr Grattan Coughlan and Mr Robert Baxter oreated the r greatest amusoment and Mr Oliver Leighton sustained a very difficult part with credit. Mr Ohas, Palmer, a lion in himself, acted in the dual capacity of Brio Ihorndykeand Aunt Luoindu, his make up in the latter character being simpl; perfect, whilst his singing was delightful. The " entertainment as a whole was really pleasing, and requires to be seen £o bo appreciated. A second performance will bo qiven this evening, when there will be < , a complete change of programme so far as the vocal members are con* j corned, as will be seen by reference to / . the advertisement else where.
