J. ■, He Blows his own Trumpet, [by telegraph.—press association.] • "Waimate, Thursday, The Hon Mr McKenzie, Minister for Lands, addressed one of tbe largest meetings ever beld here last night. He said M misters would meet Parliament mtli a handsome surplus, even more than lastyear. They had also cleared off a debt of £200,000 since taking office. He mentioned that the Payment of Members Bill would be re-introduced, and defended bis land policy at length. EJucational endowments were blocking settlement, and would have to be dealt with by Parliament, Tbe following resolution was carried unanimously : " This meeting thanks the Minister for his address, and expresses its confidence in the policy of the Government as striving to promoto the settlement of the land, and also a fair adjustment of the burdens of the people.
