PANIC IN A THEATRE.
Serious Loss of Life. [By Telegraph.—Press Association.] New lobk, April 28, A fire at the Central Theatre broke out on the fttage near the auditorium. For three or four minutes the audK ence remained orderly, and there wJ a quiet exodus from the stallsVudpit. In the gull'iries, however, a panic resulted, owing to a frantic spectator clearing his way with a knife. The aotors, who were dressing at the time, jumped from the windows, and numbers of them had limbs broken, The latest information says that over 100 including those of three actresses, have been recovered. Numbers attempted to escape by leaping from ' tlie windows, and .' were maimed. ; . The shouts of' the- victims w.ere heard in tbo Wallnutt-street Theatre, and led to a panic in which many were injured; - ./;Th"ejiatest'!acooitnts' state that the number of deaths daring the fire atthe Central Theatre is comparatively small, but 180 persons are injured,
