EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting.
The Board of Education met at Wellington yesterday morning. Present-Messis Blair (uhairman), Frnser, Young, McOardle, Dr Newman. M.H.R., and Rev J, Paterson. The following new committees were appointed i—Finance—Messrs PateN son, Newman, Fraser and Beethnm. Technical School-Messrs Newman, Beetlmm, Fraser and Voung. Pupil Teachers' Selection, City and Country and Manawatu—Messrs Young, Fra ser and Beetbam. Wairarapa District: Messrs McCardle, Buchanan and Beatham. The Chairman to be ex officio a member of all somtuittees. In response to a circular from the Education Department, it was decided to forward the names of any books now in use, but not in the Govern* ment list, for inclusion in the new authorised list now being compiled.
Leave of absence was granted under the regulations to Miss L. Treadwell, Upper Hutt, Miss M. Newton, Kaiwarra (three months each), and Miss Mary Yorke, Greytown (two months), The resignation of Miss H. M. Hiokson, of the Ditton School, was accepted..
Mr W. E Jackson (Masterton) wrote ashing thatthe main school and infant sohobl.be considered two separate Bchools, for the purpose of assessing teacher's tuition feea.r—The Board were unanimously of opinion that the schools must be treated as one.
A time-table for* military drill drawn up by the Chief Inspector and Major Newall was approved. A report from Mr A. M'Dougall on the condition of the teacher's residence at Tend was adopted, and it was decided to carry out the repairs reoommended by him.
The Educational Institute wrote, calling attention to the foot that a pupil residing in the city had attended a country school and 'obtained a country scholarship. It was decided to reply that new scholarship regulations were being adopted, It. was resolved to erect conveniences at teacher's residence, Kaiwaiwai; and to instruct the carpenter to erect cupboards at the Dreycrton and Waihakeke schools, and to repair a root at Tawa Flat,
Messrs Beaglehole and Feist were appointed to the Clyde-quay School. Tho Chairman was authorised to fix a date for the completion of election of school committees where bouses holders failed to elect on Monday. The Board's regulations were amended so as to provide for the payment of increased salaries to junior assistants,
Mr M'Cardle urged that an assistant was required at the Pahiatua School, which was going back for want of one. Tho Chairman considered tbat the local committee wero to blame lor the state of the school. It was decided to defer consideration till the headmaster's annual report is to band.
