Johnston's New United Circus and Equine Paradox appeared in the Theatre Royal, Masterton, last night, for the first time, The company was ab a serious disadvantage through having to perform upon boards, but nevertheless the entertainment wbb a most enjoyable one, as was testified by the loud and prJonged applause of the audience. The ponies, which have been thoroughly well trained, were somewhat timid, but performed some very difficult feats. A lady with an iron jaw astonished the audience by lifting from the floor with her tooth chairs, tables and solid weights. In the acrobatic line tbo Company is excoptionally strong, the trapeze work being really clever. The antics of an accomplished clown, who performed on stilts, did tho hat trick, and "acted the fool generally," kept the audience amused throughout. The whole entertainment., which inoluded some very. creditable vocahatio items, was brought to a dose with a laughable farce entitled "The Figaro.' 1 A second performance is to be given to-night, when an entirely new programme will be presented, Another oldl settlor of this district in the person of Mr' John Groves, senior, passed away at his residence in Masterton this (Wednesday), morning.
