EKETAHUNA SCHOOL
The Annual Election,
The annual meeting of householders for the eleotion of the members of the Eketahuna School Committee for the ensuing year was held on Monday evening when about twenty»five persons were present. Mr Thos. Bayliss, the retiring chairman, read the report of the past year, whioh to asfollows:—Twelve meetings have been held by the Committoe during the year and have been well'attended, A debit balance of £lB was taken over at the commencement of the year by the Committee. Steps were at onoe taken to reduce the amount of indebtedness. A ooncert was given which realized £7 Is 8d olear of expenses. The progress of the sohool has been considerably retarded during the year by the influenza epidemic, On the 25 th of January of the present year a side school was opened at New man in connection with the Eketahuna sohool, Mrs Nelson being appointed mistress, At the request of the Education Board this Committee has taken the management until a school is built or a school distriot constituted. • Through the removal of Mrs Nelson, John Mead and Miss M, Toohill have been appointed pupil teachers on probation. The expenditure has been £BB 17s 5d and tho receipts £B9 os'BJd, leaving a credit balance of 8s BJd. Accounts due at the end of the present quarter amounted to £2 2s 9d, and cleaning and removal of m'gltfsoil for both schools £6 17a 6d; total, £9 7s 3d, To meet the liabilities the capitation now due would produce £Blos, The cash in hand was 7s 9d and the deficit would therefore be 9s 6d, Slates in hand would more than cover that amount, 'Mr Lee examined the school on the 6th and 7th of the present month, the result proving highly favourable. Out of 160 children. presented there werej only, three failures,- Twenty-one' drawing certificates were gained by the children. The number of children on the books was Eketahuna 166, Newman 41,
Mr Kohon moved tbe adoption of the report and a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring committee, This waa seconded by Mr. Morris and carried; unanimously. After the adoption of the report Mr Baylies was again voted toihe ehair, and the seltotion of the new committee proceeded. 'Tgri nbrnjoajuons were received, viz,,' Messrs' (?. Bayliss, F. Dowsett, B.
