CONCERT AT GREYTOWN.

' —; /<f ■■'■ The Arbor Day Concert and Cantata was held in the Palace Theatre at Greytown last evening. Thore 'was an' exceptionally large audience present. The first part of the programme consisted of a variety concert, and was opened by a pretty' overture by the Greytown Orchestra. After this" Home, Boys Home" was BUDgbyMisß C. McGuire with ohorue, wbioh secured loud and prolonged applause. Next came a piano duet, ''Ohilperio" by the Misses Sheen and Candy, of Featherston, wbioh was played with an admirable touch.- A ballad" Pinafore and Skipping days'' was then sung by Miss. A. Nation, who did the song full justice, • Mr, Gant (late of Masterton) 1 made his first appearance on. the VGrey town stage with the song "Best of All," which aeoureda well-uietited encore, Mr Grant responding with a bow; "Waiting" was next,sung'by Miss Ethel Wood, who acquitted herself admirably, securing'load applause, bordering on an encore', ■ After" tbisj' The Misses Sheeh'and Oundy came, with the duet "Hear me, Norma I' ~• which was very: prettily rondefeij The song ••-Still .1 love thee;', wjthfi ;cho ! rus of seven, was ; next sung by" Miss Edith Kemptori, which received well deserved acclamation.' The duett "Juanita"'was very nicely rendered by: tlio Misaes, K. Mian and 0. M?guire. Misa J, Sheen here gave the audience.a treat, with a song (soleoted), A Negro Stump Speech (in oharaoter) " Looomoshun "' byMaster J. I, Hornblow.created roars of laughter., The duet " The * winds and the harp "was verynicely sung, by the Misses. E.- Wood and 0. Maguire, wbioli seoured hearty applause, This ended tho first part. The seoond part ,was the Uantata, by a large number of children, and orchestra often. The words of this wore composed by the Rev. E. H, Wyatt, and the musiobyMr-M. R. Varnham, who deserve great' crodit. Mr V arnham really has mistaken hi s occupation, .he should have been: a professional composer. The Greytown folk had no idea that olever musical author resided' among them. Thelittle folks withsmaUtreesin; their hands (the fair sex being dressed' in white) looked very pretty and acquitted themselves remarkably well, both the marching and singing being splendidly done, which showed that a great deal of troublo must have been taken by their instructors. Mr W. C.Nation, the, Secretary, alo merits a large share of praise for the energetio way in which he worked the affair up.
