MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Hasterton Boi'ough Council was held last (Tuesday (evening, there being present His Worship tho Mayor and is Heron, Hessey, Dixbu/Mutrie, G pper, and W. Perry, MINUTES. ■ ■ ' ■ ' The minutes of the previous meeting were read arid confirmed. WAfER FOUNTAm, The Police Department wrote, stating tbot there was no objection to the pieoe of land in front of the Masterton Police Station, twelve feet square, being conceded to the Borough Council for the erection of a water founkio, 'y Mr WoodrorT), 'who was present, stated there was no power under the Act for the Council to expend moneys | for the erection of a fountain, He was convinced, however, that the work would'be done without the assistance of the ratepayers as a whole, He would suggest the appointment of a committeo.of. two persons from tho Council, two from the Town Lands Trustees, and two outsiders to make the jjest .arrangements they .could, for the erection of a fountain, The Mayor could not sea how the Council could interfere, If a com* mittee were appointed from the Council and a committee from the Totvn Lwdß Trustees, who -was to appoint the putside crimniittee ?" He thought the matter should be left to private individuals. Cr Heron; Have the Town Jiinds Trustees promised to contribute to the fund for the erection of a fountain ? Mr Woodroffe; J have good reason to believe that the Trustees are going to assist, Or Gapper asked if the Council had power to rejegato the permission granted tbem by the Department fpr the use of the land to private radi* viduak The Mayor: I think so; we are trustees at will, After further discussion a coram Ifctee consisting of Cw Dixon and Feist was appointed to represent the Council in the matter, From Mr Fred. Mr,G. M.
