(From Our Own Correspondent,) Hayes and Brillianao's Oircui paid us a visit last week'and gave one performance on Friday night to a large »u:|ienpo. The intelligence of the ponies .brffu°ht forth frequent jurats of applause, ant} the 'performance throughout w decidedly medioority, I regret to say typhoid fever is prevalent here again. (There are several bad cases. A son of Mr W, W. McCardle is down with it, but 1 understand he has taken a turn for the better. ' Two members of the Waiwliiri Special Settlement Association paid, a visit last week to the block of land which the Government haye allotted to tbem for settlement at the rear of the Mangahao, and express themselves as highly satisfied with the land. In the vicinity there is a gorge which for grandeur fairly eclipses both the 'Mumiwatu and Makuri Gorges. From one fcluft headland, quite 40Qft above the river one can look for miles up the river, and over the piece of eoilntry which the Association' are tajiing' up. ' Altogether the scenery is magnificent. The Swimming Club's first sportß took place on Saturday. Every event who well contorted and some good swimming displayed.
