ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Maurioeville Road Board washeld on Saturday, the 27th February. Present —Messrs G. Gunderson (Chairman), W. Jessen, J, Bannister, O. Forsberg and H. W, Jaokson, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence outwards A petition was received, to> wljioh the signatures of a number of ratepayers on Dreyer's Rook Road and Wangaehu Road, were attached. The petition strongly condemned-, he manner in whioh the formation contracts on these roads had been executed and' suggested that another engineer should be appointed' to { examine the work. Mr Jessen maintained that there was some ground for the complaints of the petitioners and he woaldgive a qualified support to the petition. Mr.Britt, the contractor, who. was present, rebutted Mr Jessen's statements affirming that he bad carried out his contracts according to the specifications and the instructions of the engineer, After a lengthy discussion it was decided to make a progress payment of £IOO to Mr Britt, as this would still leave about £l9O in the hands of the Board, and that at an early .date a deputation consisting of the whole Board should visit and inspect .the work, ! Messrs Mattson and Roigard waited on the Board relative to the formation of Johnston's road.—lt was resolyed to call for tenders to form about 50 chains. Mr M'Kenzie, who was appointed to examine the formation on Mauriceville West road, reported that it would cost about £3 to finish the work. He also reported that he had agreed with the arbitrator appointed by Mr F. Hansen, that £1 would be sufficient compensation for the damage done to Mr Hansen's fence and grass. , A communication wasreoeived irom the Eketahuna Road Board request ing the co-operation of the Board l in constructing a bridge over the Makakahi river, at tlie Wellington Special Settlement, Block No. 2. It was represented that the proposed bridge would also benefit the settlers on the Mt, Bruce road. The Clerk was instructed to reply that the Board would make no objection to the thirds acormng from sections on the Mt. Bruce road beiug expended on the proposed bridge, provided the Eketahuna Road Board get the consent of the owners of the sections. , lt was decided to replace the culvert washed away on the South Mauriceville road by an open culvert and bridge—the Board to procure the timber required and call for tenders for labour only. It was lesojved . that alternate tenders be got for making bridle track, or part formation and part bridle track, on Mt, Munro Road East, and also alternate tenders for metalling 15 or 60 chains on Dreyer's Rock Extension. Cheques amounting to £l9O 17 IGd were passed for payment.
