THE PEMIER IN TROUBLE.
So Givoa an Eyasivo Roply. [ByTeleqhaph,] (Per Piess Association.) Auckland, Friday, The Executive Committee of the Auckland Employers' Association having written to the Premier asking him to state the facts upon which he based the charge lie bad made to the effect that " Employers Associations and the like are bitterly opposed to all j) progress likely to benefit the people c at large," Mr Ballance has replied that no charge was made against any particular association, but rathor against the general tendency of a class, This was a political question - and could only bo dealt with by - advancing reasons affecting a cluss as a whole, It was not a subject to be dealt with by correspondence, but rather from a public platform where f he bad already afforded ample oppor 1 (.unities for his opponents to uieet him. The Executive Committee : discussed this letter yesterday, when the opinion was expressed that it was erasire and unsatisfactory, because in the first place the Association had not opposed any progress likely to ■ benefit the people at large, but had merely combined in self defence against the attempt to throttle capital and commerce, and secondly because the Premier's meetings wero such j that the Association would not have | been allowed to do more than ask i questions, and could not therefore 1 reply then to his accusations. 1
