SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A The monthly meeting of the terton School Committee was held last 1 evening. Present—Messrs E, Feist (chairman), W. M. Easthope, Z, M. Hoar, C. E, Daniell, J, Williams and W. Perry. The minutes of the previousordinary and two special meetings were read and confirmed, The Treasurer reported a credit balance at date of £6l4s lOd, Mr Danisll pointed out that the Banks were charging exchange on the Education Board oheques. It was resolved that the attention of the Board be called to the matter. The Education Board forwarded a copy of summonses to be issued to the parents of children not attending school.—lt was decided to procure a supply of the summons forms. Tho Secretary stated that Mr S, Bartlett had agreed to take the paddock in Victoria Street at 5s Gd per month. Tho Education Board wrote, statr ing that tbe sum of £BSO had been i placed on the estimates for tho erection of a side school in Mastertou. Mr Easthope thought it was aboul time the school was erected'. The delay was quite unjustifiable. Mr Daniell moved that the attentioi of the Education Board lie called t< their letter of the 17th December; apt they be asked 'when they' intend t( proceed with the side school. Mr Williams seconfledr Mr Easthope moved as an amend ment'tbat the Education Board;b requested to proceed with the erectioi of the school at once. . Mr Hoar seconded. Mr Easthope did not think the question was one of charity,' Mr Daniell meed tbnt the- advisability of fixing a definite sum for each winner of a scholarship ho suggested to the Town Lands Trustees, and that extraordinary cases be dealt with as the Trustees may deem expedient, Mr Williams seconded. —Carried.
