MURDER AT EKETAHUNA.

A man named Daltou was found on the Alfrfidton road this morning about 8 a.m., almost unconscious, olose to (lie Eketahuna township, with a deep wound in his throat and another olose to the region of tho heart in the book, He lingered till about 9 a.m. It is supposed to be a caso of murder, as lio bad a sum of Sfc- money on him last evening and nothing could be fouud on him this morning. Later, The victim of this morning's tragedy was a grass seeder working at Mangaone Valley. He came in yesterday with two uiates, foreigners. Last evening they were rather the for liquor, and were seen quarrelling at the Railway Hotel at 12 p.m. Nothing more was seen of them till the body was discovered by Messrs Smith Bros, and P. White, who were proceeding to Alfredton, about two hundred yards from the railway gates., Constable Roache who was informed of the outrage, wassoon on the spot and stitched up the wound i,i the throat, which was several 'inches in length. Whilst bandaging it up another fearful wound was discovered in the back, close to the heart, from which the entrails of the poor fellow protruded. This appearß to have been caused by a stab from a large knife, and from it a quantity oi blood had flown, Tlio man died a few minutes before nine. The body was conveyed toßlliston's town hall the inquest.

Constable Roolie has proceoded to the Mangaone Yalley in search of the supposed murderers, and Deteo tive Herbert has arrived from Palliatua. Au inquest will probably be held by Colonel Roberts, R.M., at 8 o'clook to-morrow afternoon, A telegram received from Wellington states that tho victim was a resident of either the Upper or Lower Hint, Inspeotor Thompson proceeds to Eketahuna tomorrow,
