Tho fortnightly peeling of the Council w»8 held last (Tuesday) evening,there being present flis Worship the Mnyor and Ors, Heron, Hessey, Mntrie, Gapper, Feist, E. Chamberlain, Perry, and Dixon, The minutes of the previous meeting and outward correspondence were read.
Inward Correspondence, From Bank of Australasia, statin? that it would be prepared to charge interest on the net overdraft only, deducting all balances.—The Mayor stated that this would mean a great saving to the Borough. From Dr. Beard," reporting that a case of epioipplag p}S bejng treated by him in Queen street. From J. Hare, requesting the Council to release him from liability on account of the building recently destroyed by fire.—The consideration of the matter was held over till next meeting. to be erected by Mr Hockley was laid before tbe Council and approved, WOBKS COMMITTEE. ' The report of the special meeting of tho Works Committee held oji Monday evening was read and adop< ted, . GAS. The gas manager reported that everything was proceeding satisfactorily at the works. INSPECTION OF SLAUGHTERHOUSES. ■ The Inspector of Slaughterhouses (Mr J. 0. Ingram) reported that the owners of slaughterhouses in tbe district hod failed to comply with the Aot regarding branding, He would sbV that the provisions of the Aot be enforced. Tho Mayor stated that tbo Inspootor had full power under the Act to deal with the matter. There was no good to be gained by his coining continually to the Council forinstruotions. Or Perry thought that the Inspector hardly understood his duties. The Mayor uioved that the Inspector be instructed to put tbe Act into operation and report to next meeting. CrHessey seconded,-Carried. STRAYING CATTLE, Or Dixon stated that complaints had reached him of oattlostraying on' the streets to the annoyance of the public, He thought if the attention of the Ranger was called to the matter the pound fees might be increased, FLOOD GATES. «. Cr Gapper reported that he had, in company with the Chairman of tho Works Committee, inspected the flood gatea put in hy Mr Carey and found them totally usekdß, Cr Heron enaorsed what Or Gapper had said.
On the motion of Cr Gapper it was . decided that the Borough Council construct a flood gate, and that Mr Carey be requested to erect another to the satisfaction of the Works Committee,
The meeting then adjourned.
