Sor Majesty Aofcaowledgos tbt Sympathy of Her Subjects,
London, January 28. In the notification published in the Gazette the Queen thanks her subjects for their Bympalhy with the Royal Family m their recent bereaveN ment, In a letter to Mr Matthews, Horn a Secretary, Her Majesty expressed hor deep sense of the loyalty and affectionate sympathy of her subjects throughout the Empire on an occasion' which was sadder and more tragical than any misfortune whioh Had ever befallen herself and hers, as well as tho nation, It was an overwhelming, blow to the nation,' Her Majesty said, to lose, so promising a Prince, and it was rendered hard .for the sorrow-stricken parents, the dear young bride elect, and the fond grandmother to bow in submission to the inscrutable decrees of Providence, The.sympathy of the. millions had been touoliingly. and. visibly expressed—a fact that was deeply gratifying, and which caused her, on behalf of herself and her children, to express from her heart her gratituda to all, She had loved the Duke of Clarence as a son, and the sympathy evinced at his death would bo a help and consolation to her, She had sustained heavy bereavements during the last thirty years, yet she earnestly prayed for health and strength that she might work for the good and happiness of her dear country and the Empire while hoc life lasts, ■
