SPORTING.

[BY Cbstaub.]

The Autumn meeting of the Mas-terton-Opaki Jackey Club promises to be a successful affair. The course will be in good condition by St. Patrick's Day, and from what I hear the nominations will be much better than usual. !

The natives of Altura are persevering in their efforts to hold a race meeting early next month. -A meeting of those interested is to be held to-day, when the Club will be I duly formed, officers appointed, and [arrangements made for the first meeting. It is reported that a large , sum of money baa been subscribed for the stakes.

' The Wellington correspondent of the Referee saysl am sorry to hear that after journeying from Maryborough to Foxton Wi Hutana did not receive fair play. On previous running he had been nicely treated lin three handicaps, but was with, (drawn from the Flying. He was Btarted and well backed by bis owner for the big race, but could not raise a gallop. After be pulled up he showed plainly that he had been dosed, Pyramus had an easy win in the Flying, and Mr T. :Soott won the F.R.O. Handicap with Cordelia, who will pay her way at such meetings. The local owned Parauni(R, Buckeridge) won the Flying the first time he had started in big company, and. paid the fair dividend of £4 7s. Musket (who is like Cordelia, by a son of his namesake) won the Tradesmen's.
