In 1862 he went to Melj, bourne, and in July, 1863, he was ( receiving iIOO a year, A short time after he went to Duoedin, where ho was appointed ganger at £BOO a year, and remained at that salary in the Government service until 1878, when it was increased by £2O. In 1887 ho was, transferred to Auckland, and in 1888 he was taken to Wellington and the £2O increase struck off, In March, 1881, lie was BUflpsnded by the Hon George Fisher, and reinstated in June by Major Atkinson, and sent on a tour of inspection round the breweries of the Colony ever since, In addition to checking the beer of 100 breweries, Mr Jackman is gauging officer for the - 'v. whole ol the Colony, and has the supervision of the gauging of all bulk
