SPORTING.

Pa-alatua Jockey Club. A Committee meeting of the Club wob held at the Commercial liotel on Wednesday evening. Present— Messrs Tosswill (Chairman), Knight, Tuckoy, Godfrey, Thomas, Clark, and Dovonshire. The Chairman stated that the principal business was the question of the formation of a racing track. The lease and other legal documents had been prepared and wore ready for signature, and it now only remained for the Committee to authorise the Trustees to proceed with-the construction of any course that might be agreed upon, Tho question of funds was an embarcasing one, but two contractors had signified their willingness to leave the matter of payment over for twelve months if the interest upon the value of work done by them was paid, A further alternative was to approach Mr Best xgain with the view of holding the first meeting upon his course. Mr Thomas proposed that Messrs Tuckey, Clark, Devonshire, Knight, and the mover be a sub-committee to interview one or more contractors with reforence to formation ot a coiuaei and as to the terms ot payment for Ihc work, to report to a meeting on Monday next, the 11th inst. Seconded by tho Chairman and carded.

A letter from Mr Beaufort, threatening divers pains and penalties if an account for £9 9s lor surveying course, and preparing plans was not paid, was then read. It waß decided to ask Mr Beaufort to attend the meet-, ing on Monday and explain the items of his account, as it was considered that at least £l4s was an overcharge. '.The Secretary wrote,- tendering his resignation, After a motion and numerous amendments had been discussed, Mr Devonshire was finally appointed Hon See. of the Oluh, and it was deoided to ask Mr Geo. Moore to accept the position of paid Secretary. T The meeting then closed .. with a rote of thanks to the chair.
