CORRESPONDENCE.

TheJtfaatertoaPu*.

[To the Editor.] Sir.—l am one of the many persons who have heard of tbe very nice lit'le park which the good people of Masterton possess for their amusement and recreation; and as a tra/eller I thought I would avail myself of the next visit I paid to your town, to have a look at it, which I have doue, and thoroughly endorse the reports I have heard of it, and must congratulate the settlers on having so eligible a property for their*- enjoyment. However, it appears to me to. make the Park more attractive more work has to be done'. Your fenoe around the centre, which I believe you call the Oval, appears to be in a very bad state of repair, and the scats for the comfort of the people are almost rotten. The walks appear not to be formed or gravelled. No doubt tb a arises fiom the want of funds. I have heard that one of your enterprising settlors has made certain overtures to the caretakers or trustees both to improve the ground or oval, and also to provide an annual sum by the way of rental to relieve the debt at present upon the property, and to lease sub'' , stantial improvements in building! and fences upon the ground at the , expiration of his lease, which I hope , the trustees as caretakers of the pubho estate will seriously conjrider, so that at my next visit to youwbwn I will be a witness of these itaprove- , ments being executed. Wishing all I the Compliments of the Season and a Happy New Yew, I am, etc., \ Visitor.
