Rata Making ExperimentsReport of the Committee. Oaharu, December 20. A public meeting in connection with artificial rain production was held on Saturday afternoon, at which the Committee appointed to carry out the experiments read their report on the subject. The report dealt fully with the three experiments made. The Committee, however, summarised them as follows:—We might note that the first explosion was in the face of a rising north west wind, with a fairly moist atmosphere, it being four degrees from saturation, and resulted m the wind ceasing and rair following during the night. The second, on Monday, was under clouds, though somewhat broken and with an atmosphere almost saturated, the rain fell in torreuts in half an hour. The third explosions were with au atmosphere 8 deg from saturation and a perfectly clear sky overhead, and alter the 6rst explosion the clouds gathered quickly, and the Committee expected a downpour, but only a few drops fell, and the second and third explosions had a similar ending, but not so marked as the first. The conclusion that we have drawn from the experiments may be briefly stated as follows: —The atmospheric disturbances,'were so very marked on all three occasions in accumulating rain clouds that we believe there is far more in the practicability of the scheme than anyone is aware of, for, though somewhat sceptical at the outset we weie made easy converts as to the possible results, and although these few experiments were far too limited to build a theory on, the results possiblybsing coincidences, they certainly offer great inducement for more lengthened trials, and we offer our conviction for what it may be worth—That passing moisture laden clouds can be intercepted and caused to part with their moisture by an explosion; and if our conviction beoomes an established faot, there is nothing to prevent the district becoming the most profile intLe colony.
