Btiiony. Thornton sad Htarloai. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. Most of the morning in the libel action was taken ap by Archbishop Redwood's evidenoe. He had never had any ootnplaint from the men about the wages, '"lie knew Mr Evison never concealed anything from him. Had the statements in the libels been true he would have felt bound to discharge the plaintiff. Cross examined, he did not'consider there was any sweating in the Catholic Times office. He beltswed Cooper, tho printer, was not malting a large profit out of the contract. Mr Jellicoe wished the witness to read some objectionable passages in the Rationalist, but he refused, and was upheld by Judge Richmond. A large part of the examination was directed to the question of Evison's freethought tenets, but the Arch* bishop said he considered the plaintiff now that he had given up the, free* thought propaganda, was a fit and proper person to edit a paper like tho Catholic Times, explaining that he had nothing to do with the religious* part of the paper, for which a separate staff was provided. "L. Cooper, printer, said he contracted to print and publish the paper for £l4 8s per week. He had never reduced wages, but had. raised them. This year he made under £4 a week out of it himself, and only that since the jobbing business bad increased;
