PAHIATUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr Buick, M.H.R., the organising Secretary of the National Liberal Association, will lecture here to-night (Monday), explaining the ohject and aims of the Association. The lecture is under the auspices of the local branch of the Knights of 1 <abour, and the horny-handed will, no doubt, be reduced to tears at the " liberality " of the proposals. But 1 anticipate. The Impounding Ranger having recovered from la grippe has commenced operations in real earnest. The settlers all round are in trouble, and their cattle are in the pound. It is too bad that the unfortunate settler, who, perhaps, cannot fence extensively, should be so harrassed, more especially as the grass really needs keeping down on the main road, as the danger in case of fires, when it is dried up, is very great. The County Council are, however, obdurate. Horace Chester played to rather a poor audience on Friday evening in the Public Hall, in his impeisonation scenes.

The Mangatainoka Methodist Church held a rather successful conc9rt and coffee supper on Friday evening. At the conclusion of the concert the ladies of the congregation succeeded in selling the goods left over from the sale of work recently held. The proceeds, which should now amount to a decent sum, are in aid of the organ fund.
