EKETAHUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Several of our leading citizens are laid up with the influenza, and as most cf the men are absent in the bush, business is not very lively in Eketa • huna. Still, with the approach of the festive Xmas season, we are looking forward to better times.

Several small improvements have been executed here lately, giving the township quite a fresh looking and npat appearance. Anyone who passed through about two years ago would hardly know the place now, it is so much altered for the better.

The contract for painting Mr JnoAnderson's Hotel has been let, and the contractors are getting on famously with the work.

Mr Charles Goddard, the veteran blacksmith, has had his buildings moved out to the footpath and intends starting business in the fruit and greengrocery line very shortly. The deep and unsightly gully in front of Carter street is now being Glled in, and this work should add materially to the value of the sections at the back of it.

Preparatory operations have been made for the erection of Mr Aulin's new store, and a gang of men are actively engaged removing the bank of earth on the site. A substantial six feet board fence has just been erected by Mr F. D. Pelling.'of the Club Hotel, which will give greater privacy to the back premises.
