In the Supreme Court to-day James Neil sued Pilling Bros.> proprietors of the Tuapeka Times, for £2OO damages for libel which was contained in a paragraph commenting on a case in the Resident Magistrate's Court, Dunedin, in which plaintift'fi father-in-law, an aged man in destitute circumstances, successfully brought a maintenance suit against Mrs Neil. A verdiot was given for the plaintiff for £26.

The Auckland bi-anoh of the New Zealand Journalists' Institute have decided to celebrate the establishment of tbe branch by a banquet on Saturday next. Mr Ballance has accepted an invitation to be present. Several new members from the Northern Wairoa, Thames and Gisbome were admitted to the branch at the meeting on Saturday night, " ' '■■'■ !
Dispute Between Loo«l Bodies.

A dispute between the Vincent County Council and tbfc Cromwell Borough Council culmimned yesterday in an attempt by the former body to prevent the Borough Council from carrying their water pipeß across the new Cromwell bridge.
