CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

Important Resolutions.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.]

Dunedin, Decembar 5

At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman (Mr A. S. Paterson) in his speech said that to the state of trade generally the term satisfactory might be applied. Interest was centred in the exports, and their rapid extension was commanding attention in the outside world with the result that the conviction was growing in the best circles of the merits and stability of the colony and its trade. A series of resolutions re the Chicago Exhibition were carried to the effect—l. That the exhibits of the colony's products should be of a national character and made in the name of the colony rather than a collection of small exhibits from individuals. 2. First consideration should be given to the leading products, which are at present a matter of trade with the States, chiefly wool, hemp, rabbit skins, and kauri gum, 9. Subsidiary to the national exhibit attention should be given to cereals, minerals, and other natural products. 4. That the various Chambers of Commerce should offer to undertake the work of getting together products, to be afterwards sold on the owner's account, or returned to the colony under some equitable regulations. 6. That a suitable summary of the statistics of the colony should be prepared for circulation. In connection with defective book-keeping a resolution was passed that the question of improving the bankruptcy law should be taken into consideration, and that this Chamber should submit their proposals to the other Chambers and trading institutions. It was decided by the majority to agree with the suggestion of the Invercargill Chamber that the Government should give consideration to the desirability or otherwise of joining Australia in Colonial Federation.
