The Wairarapa Daily. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1891.
The egotism displayed by that very much over-rated person, Mr C. A. Pownall, in the Temperance Hull last evening, was something appalling. He went" one better " than even his friend Mr Alexander Hogg, who for years has been accustomed to publicly praise and exalt himself. Let us hope that the votes recorded to-day will put Mr Pownall in his proper position. It is evident that he does not realise how Masterton can possibly get on without him, and is an almost hopeless victim to inordinate self-conceit. The report of his meeting in another column shows to what lengths a pretentious but shallow municipal candidate can go, and the public exhibition he is capable of making of himself.
