I (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting was u«u ~ the 12th ii)Sf. at tJ*e schoolhou.se, in forming a Bifle Club? The attendance V as not large owing to the unpropitioua state of the weather. After voting Mr \V. Benton to the ohair those present discussed the matter, and it was resolved to form a Rifle Club, another meeting to be held at the same place on Saturday the 14th
inst to elect officers, a committee and other matters of detail. The proposed site 'of Jhe'tfange js an excellent one. It will be op We p'rppprties of fyessrs BidvrjU and Fenwiek. The targets will be erected against a hill of sufficient altitude to render it perfectly safe for even the most erratic sportsman, The Chairman was deputed to interview Mr Fenwick to make arrangements with him re range for the fuller information of the meeting on the 14th inst. After the meeting con eluded all those present were invited by l£r McDermid to inspect the artistic worjk" of tlie'ejler scholars, yjjejr popular and painstaking _ teacher evidently takes great interest
in jjfa pupils, ana justly bo, ror the various maps that were'shpvn would certainly be no disgrace to a 8.A., much less boys and girls 18 years of age. I understand that several of these juvenile works of art are to compete for tbesp'cial prize given for this kind of worjf at the Horticultural Show at (»reytp>n. •■ I have on several occasions recorded through your colinins the excellent yield of wool produced from the well ! known Pihautea flock of Bomney : sheep. On this occasion I send the : percentage of lambs from the same < flock, numbering several thousands. The percentage, I believe, exceeded 120 per cent. I wonder what they would think of those figures in La ] Plata. -'' "
A concert is to be held iu the church
at Morrison's Bush on the 17ih znst., the proceeds to go towards fencing in the grounds. Judging by the gnlaxy of talent that appears on the pro* gramme it should prove a great success. After the grounds are fenced a gentleman has promised to give sufficient trees to plant it. This is quite a munificent gift.
