At Waipiro to-day, Tutu aud four others were brought up before Mr Booth, R'M, and Sir George Wbi^

more, on a chaige of trespass. They were each fined .£lO, or three months imprisonment. All the other trespassers who have been carrying firearms are to be arrested. Tutu and his four comrades are in the losk-up at present. Tatu was released.this afternoon, his fine having been paid by Soroerville Bros, for whom he is engaged to shear. Erneti Te Kangi, who was convicted on the charge of threaten - ing language, has also been released, Mr Boyd having become security for his good behaviour. Tutu addressed his people this afternoon, setting forth his views,and announcing that he has a good action against the Government for false imprisonment. Mr Dalton, Native interpreter, and Mr Connolly, hotelkeeper, strongly advised the Natives to disperse at once and go to their homes at Jerusa leifa, or they would probably be arrested to-morrow and sent to Napier gaol. The Maoris accepted their advice, and are now leaving Waipiro.

At the annual meeting of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company, Mr A. J. Burns, acting chairman, in moving the adoption of the report declaring an 8 per cent dividend, Said that in the first half-year trade had been very bad owing to the disorganisation caused by the labour trouble, but ic recovered in the second half. The Company itself had not been affected, as it was on the best of terms wiih its employes. It was necessary, in order to pay the dividend, to tak< £IOOO from the reserve fund, which had been specially built up for that purpose. He said the Company had to compete with imitations of their goods which were not of the best quality. He concluded by saying that if the mills only went in for the very best quality it would be better for the country than at presant, as the tariff was doubled. Messrs Cargill' and Hare were reelected Directors.
