TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Hoard was held on Saturi|4y Jpst. Present : Messrs R* Bunny (cljatrmwn. JL gpaithwaite, IS. Morgan, N. Grape, fr. W. F\ liray, and A. Gallon.
The imputes of the pre7ious meeting we.fe read and CQnfjrrped. Tbfi Treasurer reported the Bank overdraft at £36 Jls sd. A statement of liabilities of each Ward was laid upon the table. The Clfirk reported the total amount of rates collected to be £1415 out of a total of about £I6OO.
Correspondence inwards was read. —From the Chief Surveyor, for infor* mation rp all roads in the TaratahiCartertoh road district for the purpose of having them properly leaalised. Erorn Bank of Australasia, re rates sued for 'in error. —The niattei was leit ia the hands of the Clerk,
From Mr Moore, re road for A. Douglas to the const, stating that he would oppose the road being taken, and if taken under the Public Works Act he would require £2O ber acre and the road fenced on both sides. From Colonial Treasurer, refusing the lonn of £3500 for a road on the East Coast.
The Chairman moved and Mr N. Grace seconded, that a special rate of 33-40ths of a penny in the£ be levied in the Kokatau rating district to meet the repayment of ihe loan of £2500 for the bridge over the Ruamahunga river.
Tender* for the erection of the bridge over the Ruamahunga riyer were opened and that of Mr Joseph Dawson was accepted at £1739. There were several tenders from iiifferent parts of the Colony, but the one accepted was the lowest, being some £4O below the Engineer's estimate. The overseering of the works w.is left* to Mr Bremner, there being several applications for the position of overseer.
Some accounts were passed for payment.
In reference to the Maungatere bridge, th« overseer of roads recommended that it should be strengthened hy lengthening the stringsrs, and it was resolved that the work be done under the supervision of the overseer of roads.
Mr Gallon moved that tenders be invited for metalling about 7 chains of road at Matarawa. Mr Grace seconded, carried. Mr Grace moved that tenders be called for fencing about 40 chains through Grant's, leading to the main road, and that the matter ba left in Mr Grace's hands. Seconded by Chairman and carried. Th'i meeting then closed.
