DROWNING ACCIDENT.
A Man Falls off a Wfcarf
A drowning accident happened in Wellington harbour last night, the victim being a man named Tulloch, who came out from England about a fortnight ago in the R.M.S. Doric as a steerage passenger. 11 appears, according to the Times, that about 6.80 last night Tulloch went on board the Doric, which returned from Lyttelton on Saturday, and spent about an hour on the vessel. He left the steamer about 7.30, and was then seen to walk in the direction of the end of the tee at which the steamer was berthed. Shortly after this a sailor on board the Rotorua, whioh is lying at Jervois Quay, saw a man (who, it subsequently appeared, was the deceased) fall off the end of the tee into the water. He gave the alarm, and a boat was at once procured by the night watchman on the wharf, and after a little difficulty, Tulloch, who ■was lying in the water with bis head downwards, was pulled into the boat, then placed on the wharf. There was a mark on the forehead which had apparently been caused by the deceased striking his head against the wharf as he fell. The body was quite warm, and means were at once taken to restore animation, but the onfortunate man was beyond all unman aid. Dr Gillon, who had been telephoned for, arrived, and be pronounced life to be extinct. The body was after., wards taken to the Morgue, where the inquest will be held this afternoon. The deceased was a middle-aged man, and respectably dressed, and is supposed to have relatives in Wellington.
