DEMONSTRATION DAY.

Wellington, Wednesday. The weather is glorious for Demon* st rat ion Day, and the day is observed as a holiday by a large number of business housts, in addition to which all the Government offices, solicitors, and others are closed. Upwards of 30 .rades, as well as unskilled labor unions, took part in a procession which paraded the main streets, nnd many of the former had tableaux embiematic of their trade, notably, carpenters, builermakers, shearers unions, etc. The whale fishermen had a boat mounted on a trolly, surrounded with kelp and seaweed, from which the occupants of the boat were hauling in fish. Every deUprip* lion of vehicle took part, even to the dustcart. Five bands assisted in tho procession, which proceeded to Newtown Park, where Sir Robert Stout and the Mayor delivered address and the remainder of the day will be devoted to sports. The amalgamated carpenters scoured the prize for tha best tableau.
