Interesting Returns-

The following return shows the distribution of occupied land in the colony, including Crown pastoral leases and small grazing runs. The number of holdings in each grade is stated as follows :—Over 1 acre to 10 acres, inclusive, 11,116 ; over 10 acres to 50 acres, 8899 ; over 50 acres to 100 acres, 5613 ; over 100 acres to 200 acres, 6851 ; over 200 acres to 320 acres, 3916 ; over 320 acres to 640 acres, 3802 ; over 640 acres to 1000 acres, 1821 ;over 1000 acres to 5000 acres, 1675; over 5000 acres to 10,000 acres, 247 ; over 10,000 acres to 20,000 acres, 189 ; over 20,000 acresto 50,000 acres, 117; over 50,000 acres to 100,000 acres, 24, upwards of 100,000 acres, 7—total number of holdings, 43,777. This is an increase from 36,485 in 1886 and from 30,832 in ISBI. Three of the holdings above 100,000 acres are in the Wellington Provincial District, and one each in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, and Otago. Of those above 50,000 acres! there are seven in Auckland, seven in Otago, three in Canterbury, two in Marlborough, and one each in Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Nel son apd the Chatham Islands,
