UPPER MAKURI
Communication -Kith Danevirfce.
Several settlera (says the Bush Advocate) have recently taken up a block of 3009 acres in theabove district iind are anxious to ge: communication with Danevirke. At present their track leads to Pahiama.a distance of 27 miles. It takes two days to do the journey and costs j£ls a ton to bring goods out. The settlers intend to I petition the Danevirke Koad Bmrd to [fell and clear the road up theMangatoro Valley as far as the boundary of the Wellington province. This will leave about a mile and a half of road to the block, and the settlers themselves intend, if the Board will do their portion, to clear that themselves. We need hardly express a hopo that when the matter comes before the Board they will give it favorable consideration, as ws are sure they will do what they can in the matter. It will be rather an important thing for this place if the trade from the Makuri district can be secured, while the settlers themselves vt ill be immense gainers in every way, as they can make the journey to Danevirke in one day, and get their stores out at one third of the rate it costs them at present.
