THE SALVATION ARMY.
Marechale Booth, the General's eldest daughter, is conducting a series of Salvation meetings in the United States. Borne of the largest and finest buildings in America have been engaged. The campaign commences inTremont Temple, Boston. Miss Eva Booth sustained a nasty accident a few week 3 ago, when driving near Guildford, Surrey, England. She was thrown out of the carriage, and fell with some violence on her head. When the mail left London, she was still suffering severely. The Salvation Army is erecting a big Temple at Birmingham, to cost seventeen thousand pounds. The forces of the Salvation Army throughout the world now number a total of 10,781 officers, of whom 4778 are in the United Kingdom and 6003 in other countries,
The Salvage Brigade, one of the most important parts cf the Darkest England Scheme, will shortly be commenced. A commodious wharf has been secured at Battersea, and fleets of Salvation barges will soon run between Battersea and Hadleigh carrying Salvage material down the river, and bringing produce up. General Booth left Sydney by the s.B. Pukaki, late on the night of the 14th, and is expected to arrive at Auckland on the 20th. Great preparations are being made for his reception. Sir William Fox will preside at a select invitation meeting in Auckland, when General Booth will propound his great Social Scheme. The Rev Dr Stuart will take the chair at a similar meeting in Dunedin. Arrangements are on foot for gatherings of a like nature in Christchurch and Wellington: Lyttelcon proposes to give General Booth a great public reception on the arrival of the Takapuna on the morning of Thursday, the 29th inst. Mr John Joyce. Jt.H.R., and jibe Mayor of Lyttelton will present an address of welcome on bebalf of the townsfolk, to Which the General will reply. The presence of between 500 and 600 Salvationists and Bandsmen from Christchurch wi'tf furi-bap effhanpo the interest of the prowedhrigs.' "'
