THE EDWARDS CASE.
Costs of the Claim.
An announcement, was made by the Premier in the Hcuse on Wednesday night to the effect that I he Government still did not see their way to pay tbe costs of the Edwards case, pending the proceeding*in the Privy Council, Mr -Stilly, Crown Prosecutor, has written to the Attorney-General that all he agreed in the Appeal Court to do in regard to costs was to waive technical difficulties. This, the Premier explained, seemed to mean that Mr Edwards was to be put in exactly the same position as any private litigant, so that the question of costs was necessarily hung up until the case was finally decided. I'he Minister for Justice sdded that the vote of £6OO voted in the Estimates for the purpose was intended to defray any costs for which the Crown might be found to be liable. The Hon. Mr Rolleston thanked the Premier for having recansideied the matter, but at the same time ho heard the decision with unbounded regret, and he thought it J would be received throughout the colony with feelings of great dissatisfaction.
