IOLANTHE.

lolanthe was repeated at Greytown last night to a large and most appro* oiative audience, who testified their approval by raining showers of bouquets on the principal characters, and by repeated demands for encores. The most critical could hardly find • fault in the rendering of this pretty and favorite opera by the Greytown amateurs, one and all seeming to throw their whole heart and. energy in the work undertaken. Miss A. Hastwell, as lolanthe, aeted and tang her part to perfection, her rendering - of the appeal lo the Lord High Chancellor's sympathies being especi* ally telling and effective, and ca rising from her recumbent position she found herself literally surrounded by bouquets and lovely flowers. Miss A. Jackson, as Queen of the Fairies, was a thorough and substantial succesp, her articulation being par* ticnlarly clear. Miss Cameron, as Phyllis, an arcadian shepngadjjj^and \ r ward in chancery, prove(lt3Wßs*(Jja r of the management's selection, oifrlhe cast, sustaining her part in a remarkably clever mHMP' her acting being natural and exception* ally good. The part of the principal fairies was undertaken by the Misses B. McMasler, 0. Jackson, and York, who made the most of their charac* ters, and were really most charming fairies. The cast of Lord High Chancellor was undertaken by Mr ©• J. Duff in a most' masterly inlifmtf, bis acting and singing, as well as pis clever articulation of that most dim* cult patter song, leaving nothing to be desired, whilst his get op was immense. Mr F. J. Hunn. is Strephbri, was' true #> bjs'character, and appeared to be quite in bis element, as an ardent lover. Mr tit. Jfupti • leading member of the Wellington Amateur Operatic <3omnany, undertook tfte part of the Ear} of Tolloller, his rendering of- whipL«a|aj| perfect, and his fine tenop voice wW much appreciated. Mr A. Bicknell was quite at home, as |Eirl of Mountararat. The singing and dancing qf the tr|p, the L>rd High Chancellor and the Earls, was much enjoyed, calling 1 forth a double _ encor/, Mr A. L. Webster,, n in the Grenadier

;'' ' Guards, sustained his character with natural ease and ability. The choruses were well rendered, and the orchestra all that could be desired, whilst the dresses and staging, aide! by. the lime light, were s sight worth seeing in themselves. The residents haye a treat in store for them on Monday night.
